Most issuers must reverse unauthorised card charges if reported promptly.
What to do
- Call the number on the back of the card (or in the official app) and report fraud
- Ask the issuer to freeze the card immediately and reissue a new card and number
- Dispute every unauthorised charge — Visa/Mastercard codes 10.4 (fraud) or 13.x (services not provided)
- If a UK credit card and any single charge is over £100, also cite Section 75
- Get a fraud case reference and ask for a provisional credit while they investigate
