File a Card Chargeback After a Scam Payment

Lodge formally — issuers usually ignore informal requests.

    What to do

      • Open a chargeback in the card app or by phone — cite codes 13.5 (misrepresentation) or 13.1 (services not received)
      • If a UK credit card and the payment was over £100, also cite Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act
      • Send all evidence (screenshots, scam emails, the merchant's silence) within the issuer's deadline
      • If the chargeback fails, escalate to the Financial Ombudsman / AFCA / CFPB
