Step 1: Open Instagram Account Settings
- Open the Instagram app or go to instagram.com
- Go to your Profile and tap the Edit profile button
- Tap Personal information settings (or go to Settings → Accounts Center → Personal details)
- Under Contact info, tap your current email address
- Tap Add new email addressand enter your Proton Mail address
Tip
Step 2: Verify Your New Proton Mail Address
- Open Proton Mail at mail.proton.me
- Find the confirmation email from Instagram (check spam/junk if needed)
- Click the confirmation link in the email
- Return to Instagram and confirm that your new email is now listed as your primary email
Important
Step 3: Remove Your Old Email Address
- Go back to Personal information → Contact info
- Select your old email address
- Tap Remove to disconnect it from your account
- Confirm the removal when prompted
Step 4: Secure Your Account
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication — Go to Settings → Accounts Center → Password and security → Two-factor authentication. Use an authenticator app like Proton Authenticator.
- Review login activity — Check Settings → Accounts Center → Password and security → Where you're logged in. Remove any sessions you don't recognize.
- Check connected apps — Go to Settings → Website permissions and revoke access for any apps you no longer use.
- Set a strong unique password — Use a password manager like Proton Pass to generate and store a strong password.
