    How to Protect Your Mac Against Ransomware

    1. Run Time Machine continuously

    1. Plug in an external SSD (at least 2× your Mac's storage)

    3. Enable Back Up Automatically
    4. Optionally add a second cloud backup (iCloud, Backblaze) for protection if the external drive is also encrypted

    2. Enable FileVault and Gatekeeper

    • Privacy & Security → turn on FileVault
    • Set Allow apps from to App Store and identified developers
    • Never override Gatekeeper warnings for unsigned apps

    3. Keep macOS up to date

    Apple ships Rapid Security Responses for ransomware-relevant flaws. Enable automatic updates under GeneralSoftware Update.

    4. Smart habits

    • Do not paste Terminal commands from web pages
    • Avoid cracked or pirated apps — these are common ransomware delivery channels on Mac
    • Be cautious with email attachments, even from contacts
