Synthetic identity fraud combines real details (your name, SSN/TFN/NI) with fake ones to create a 'new person' for credit. You won't see it on your bank statements — only on your credit file.
What to look for
- Variations of your name (middle initials added/dropped, alternate spellings)
- Addresses you've never lived at
- Employers you've never worked for
- Accounts opened that don't appear in your own statements
